Worlds Longest Range Electric Car Conversion Goes 300 Km

Electric Cars Europe (ECE) have finished the first gas-to-electric conversion of 200 Volkswagen Golfs for the Dutch energy supplier, ENEXIS (formerly known as Essent).

The fleet is to be used in the testing of the Euro version of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) dubbed the “Mobile Smart Grid” (PDF). We don’t have any spec information about the electric Golf, but it is reported to have enough lithium ion batteries to travel 300 Km (186 miles) on one charge. A Florida based company is specialising in converting Porsches to electric power with very little loss in performance, any varying ranges depending on the weight of batteries you are willing to put up with. The company also specializes in making their electric Porsche’s resemble other cars, such as Lamborghini’s and even iconic Porsche racing cars, such as the 962 with over 2,600lb-ft (3,500Nm) of torque.

The company is EvPorsche, and it hopes to compete against companies like Tesla that are already producing their own electric sports cars, as well as Lotus, which is developing one. Read more

Neil Young Converts 1959 Lincoln Continental to run Electric

Neil Young has created a company called Linc Volt Technology to promote the conversion of existing gas-guzzling cars into vehicles that run on alternative energy.

According to Mr. Young, “Our main focus is on developing the technology. We can tell people how to do it. Or, we can do it for you.” Marc Benioff, a friend of Young’s, is set to be the newly-created company’s first customer, getting his Ford F-150 truck converted to electric.
