Pilot EV Recharging Network Starts in Seville, Spain

Spain’s ambitious program of introducing EVs, hybrid and plug-in cars (a million units for 2012) is promoting the new network under the Movele program.
Sevilla, Spain’s fourth largest city, will be getting 75 public electric vehicle recharging stations dotted around the city this year. Ampera comes branded with Opel and Vauxhaull badges

These are many brands that will get a version of the plug-in Volt, Holden. Chevy. Opel. Vauxhall. to name the ones announced so far. Europeans will call it the Ampera, but under all those models will be the Voltec technology that gives the hybrid a 60-km (37-mile) electric-only range and a 500-km (310 mile) total range when the gas tank is filled up. Ford Launching Electric Transit Connect in 2010

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Gets 65 MPG

The Toyota Prius plug-in hybrids are averaging 65 miles per gallon in real world testing according to Toyota. This is a lot better than the 2010 Prius, 15 mpg better in fact. The battery is reportedly lithium-ion technology, but they are testing a variety of configurations and types before finalising the specification.
There is no release date for a plug-in prius, but it is widely expected to be available in 2010. Read more
Mindset Electric Cars Running on the Road

After all the electric car concepts we’ve seen lately, it’s really nice to see one actually out on the road and meeting it’s deadlines. The Mindset electric car was revealed to the press just under a year ago, and at that time, company founder Murat Günak, who previously worked for Volkswagen, suggested that he’d like to see full-scale models by the end of 2008 and running proof-of-concept vehicles in 2009.
He has succeeded in that first goal, and he has also managed to hit the second deadline as well. With a Mindset now being driven on public roads by a member of the press, namely Hauke Schrieber from Germany’s Auto Bild. He is reportedly quite impressed with the performance of the little coupe. Opel’s lightning bolt has never seemed more appropriate now that they have announced the Chevy Volt for Europe will be badged as the Opel Ampera.
The Chevy Volt is a global vehicle intended to be sold and driven in many of the countries GM does business.
Europe is key global market and therefore the Volt will first appear there under the Opel brand, which is known for advanced technology. and is the GM brand in mainland Europe. Read more
Electric Supercar 0-60 2.5 Secs 208 mph 10 Min Charge!

Shelby Super Cars (SSC) has published a revised version of its recent press release regarding their electric vehicle program. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about it’s the crazy fast Ultimate Aero EV which is claimed to have 1000 hp and 800 lb‐ft of torque giving it a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 208 mph.
Their craziest claim of being able to recharge their Ultimate Aero EV in ten minutes from an ordinary 110V outlet has now been changed to “…SSC’s “Charge on the Run™” onboard charging system allows for 10 minute full battery recharges on a 220V service.” That’s still crazy talk and I pity the fool that believes it. Gorgeous Electric Car Unveiled by Cadillac at Detroit Show

The Voltec-equipped, extended range electric Cadillac Converj Concept has been unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
Based on the Chevy Volt’s “Voltec” drivetrain, which used to be called E-Flex, the coupe is drop-dead gorgeous. Bob Lutz told the press conference that the car was designed to be aesthetically pleasing on its own, while being instantly recognizable as Cadillac. Lutz referred to the Converj as the “Cadillac of Electric Vehicles” well yes, and it could well bring Cadillac to the top of the luxury electric car heap. Read more
Dodge Unveil New Electric Sportscar the Circuit EV at Detroit

Based on the Lotus Europa the Dodge Circuit EV features styling inspired by the powerful Dodge Viper with its distinctive crosshair grille, wide track and low hood. The rear also gets a new more sporty look with a small diffuser. Special alloy wheels and a lick of orange paint that Chrysler calls “Tangoreen” look. Read more
