Japanese Convenience Store to Provide Electric Cars for Customers

Japanese convenience store chain operator Lawson Inc. plans to add 150 Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric vehicles to its fleet in the summer of 2009. The company intends to add as many as 1,600 i-MiEVs eventually, according to the report in the Nikkei.

Before the full-scale introduction in the summer, the company plans to begin using a single i-MiEV in the Tokyo metropolitan area on January 12 to evaluate its ease of use and effectiveness in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Read more

The Wheel Has Been Reinvented - Electric In-Wheel Motors

The Michelin tire company is getting very close to releasing its electric wheel concept into commercially available cars. The company has been showing off versions of what they call “Active Wheel” since 2004. The system contains virtually all of the components necessary for a vehicle to propel or stop: an electric motor, suspension coils and springs, and braking components. It localizes the entire suspension, springs, dampers, geometry and all, plus an electric-drive motor and of course the brakes inside the envelope of the wheel, freeing all sorts of space for hauling passengers and luggage.
