The Geneva Motor Show next month will see the Mazda3 lineup will getting rounded off with the debut of the new MazdaSpeed3 and its 2.0L direct injected four cylinder with start-stop technology. The MazdaSpeed3 is the turbocharged high performance variant of the lineup.

The Mazda3 i-Stop features a 2.0L direct-injected and normally aspirated four-cylinder engine. The MZR 2.0 DISI is the first appliaction of i-Stop, or Mazda’s intelligent auto start/stop system. Instead of using a starter/generator to re-start the engine, the engine is stopped in a specific position with the valves closed in one cylinder. The fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber and then ignited to get the piston moving and re-start the engine. Read more

Stop-Start Tata Nano is Very Cheap

January 4, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Tata is said to be working on a more eco-friendly version of the Nano microcar that will feature stop/start technology and is referring to the machine as a micro hybrid. Stretching the term ‘hybrid’ aside, the technology from Bosch is expected to reduce fuel consumption and improve emissions by up to to 10 percent for an extra few hundred dollars.

A few hundred may not sound like much but it will be a significant increase to the $2,500 price tag, and Tata is worried that the new micro hybrid drivetrain will add too much cost to the car. Tata is also expected to launch diesel and electric versions of the Nano.
