Brazil gets the VW BlueMotion Range

Volkswagen has decided to offer the BlueMotion badge in Brazil, although it has adapted it to the homegrown fuel from the South American continent, the Brazilian BlueMotion badge vehicles will be powered by ethanol. BlueMotion will be an option for the Fox (pictured above), Golf and Polo models. Not much information has been released yet, although the models are currently being shown at the São Paulo Motor Show. Audi Announces All Electric City Car

Audi has said that it plans to launch a small electric city car, which will be based on the VW Up! concept (artists rendering above).
Audi management board member, Peter Schwarzenbauer, speaking at last weeks Paris Motor Show, said, “we will offer a pure electric car.” He also said that the electric Audi “will not be based on the A1,” the firm’s entry into the premium supermini class. Read more
Volkswagen Golf Twin Drive 2011

VW is working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Golf/Rabbit, called Twin Drive, which they are planning to sell in 2011. A proof-of-concept version using a diesel engine is currently testing using the current Mark 5 model in Berlin. VW engineers said the production version will be gasoline-powered because emission controls will soon get too expensive for a hybrid diesel. The Golf Twin Drive’s electric-only range is targeted at 30 miles. Read more
VW Golf Bluemotion 2009

This is Volkswagen’s Bluemotion concept car that will be it’s cleanest Mk6 Golf. They claim it will achieve 74mpg while puffing out a paltry 99g/km. Those are figures on a par with today’s Polo Bluemotion, but this concept will become production reality in mid-2009. Read more

VW’s Polo Bluemotion offers great fuel economy but it’s a little expensive. It might be worth trying the TDi version instead.
The rising cost of running a car, plus fears over CO2 emissions, means car makers are thinking harder than ever about the kind of vehicles they are building and so they are producing ever more efficient cars.
The changes to the Polo body are subtle. A faired-in grille, smaller mirrors and a rear window spoiler help lower the drag. Its special 14-inch alloy wheels are fitted with skinny, high-profile tyres which reduce rolling resistance. Read more
